Lunch yesterday at La Sombra was amazing – we missed a few of the regular ladies, but it was nice to see Cathy, Christi & Katie again!! And thanks again to Cat from CRAVE who arranged our lunch for us, the food and atmosphere were fabulous; I couldn’t stop thinking about the guacamole all day. Seriously – they put a little vinegar in it, which was a nice touch. Everything was yummy, we sampled the yuca fritas, the arepas & guacamole, and I had the empanada sampler platter. The waiter was also very gracious
none of us could make up our minds, so he was happy to help. I don’t know, I think that’s a good sign when EVERYTHING looks so good you want to try it all, no? We’ll definitely be back to La Sombra for lunch – thanks to everyone for having us!
We don’t have a full picture of the group, but here’s one of a few of us (minus me, Christi & Sandya)

From L to R: Cathy, Katie, Elia, Sydney
Katie got some great pictures of the food – hopefully she’ll post them soon
And now, on to next week (I’m excited!). As I mentioned in a previous post, I discussed with Megan (SewSister) that we should have lunch down near her then take a field trip to her pop-up shop after to buy some pretty lingerie, and that’s what we’re doing. We have reservations for 11:45, Thursday, August 26 at Moonshine (they don’t take reservations for 12 or 12:30) then afterward, we’ll walk over to Megan’s for some shopping.
Leave a comment here to RSVP, or sign up for the newsletter and RSVP by reply next week.
About the ATX Ladies who Lunch:
The lunches are open to anyone who is a local fashion blogger, blogger, designer, interested in fashion, entrepreneur, etc. I’m trying to make the lunches a bit more “formal” by having new Ladies who Lunch introduce themselves and talk a little about what they do, and we also have a brainstorming/discussion session where everyone can ask questions about blogging, get help with ideas, or discuss issues they’re dealing with. We’re here to help one another and draw inspiration from learning about what everyone else is doing. So, if you’re interested, please join us; you’re always welcome.

If there’s one thing I do appreciate about the way Austin Fashion Week was organized this year vs last year is that all the boutique events are organized by location this year; making it easier to attend events without driving all over the place. (I wasn’t here last year, but I’ve heard that this was the case, and people are definitely finding it easier to plan to attend events this year). I could do without the heat though.
Wednesday evening I hit up Feathers Boutique and Buy Definition on South Congress. First Feathers –

There’s a reason why Feathers is always one of the top rated/most popular vintage stores in Austin, and I think besides their AMAZING selection, it’s the owners/employees. Emily (on the left) is wonderful, and I don’t say that just because we share an obsession with No6 clogs
and I wanted to steal the dress off her partner’s body all night (and I feel awful, but I’ve forgotten her name). I mean, seriously – it was stunning. And I loved her shoes!!!
Anyway, I actually tried on a couple of pieces that caught my eye, and Emily was so wonderful to help style them, and give me ideas, but I couldn’t make my mind up, so I didn’t get anything…but I’ll be back!!!

I met Joyce and Cathy there:

And I didn’t get a good picture of Louise, or the pieces she had there, but they were GORGEOUS. I *think* I saw this there:

And then we went down to my friend Esti’s place: Buy Definition. Her shop is wonderful; I love the mix of designers, from T by Alexander Wang to Lorick. Here she is with Marques from the Statesman and Christopher from L style G style:

and me with my friend Sari (rocking her new Ralph Lauren pants
)

And also Sydney with her friend Sarah and Laurel, who’s actually covering Austin Fashion Week for Fashionista.com (and also a milliner)

All the events this week are divided by district, which is a great idea, and allows you to hit up several parties at a time and not have to go very far… Last night, Sydney and I went first to Hem to check out Megan Summerville’s party & this amazing corset:

(Megan and her corset
) Check out Megan’s pop-up shop at 606 3rd street to take a peek at more of her pieces. And actually, Megan and I talked last night about hosting an ATX Ladies who Lunch at Moonshine soon, then having a field trip over to the shop. Maybe we’ll do that on August 26…
After Hem, we went over to Cory Ryan’s party at her studio which featured decor by Maureen from Inglenook Decor – check out the “candy bar” she set up!!

And here’s Maureen (we all loved her dress!)

Rose, Laura, Vinh & Indiana (not pictured below) were also there – but it was SO hot & crowded in there, we left after about a half-hour. And missed seeing the fortune teller. Boo.

We headed over to Dean Frederick’s party cuz he was giving away a diamond. For real. None of us won it, but it got us in the door!! And it was slightly less crowded over there, although WAY more noisy. At least over there we got some “real” food i.e. tiny hot dogs from Frank and bacon-wrapped gorgonzola stuffed figs (!).
While we were there, we met Kelly from yelp! (not pictured here) & Rachel from do512 (next to Indiana on the left)

I’m taking a break tonight, and heading back out Wednesday to the Buy Definition & Feathers Boutique events. What are you doing?
